Summary:

Sara Crewe had been living in India as the pampered darling of her doting father, a British army captain. Motherless from birth, Sara's life changes after she is enrolled at an exclusive boarding school in London. Her extravagant lifestyle suddenly vanishes when her father dies and loses their fortune on a failed diamond venture. Without any relatives to help, Sara faces cruelty and hardship at the hands of a greedy school director, as an overworked maidservant.
