Summary:

Likable family man Tom Barnaby is the down-to-earth Chief detective for a cluster of idyllic English country villages where some of the rose-covered cottages are home to murderers, thieves, and blackmailers. Barnaby exposes the criminals with the help from his eager young assistant Sargeant Troy and from his supportive wife.
Tainted fruit: Death threats against beautiful but spoiled Melissa Townsend bring Barnaby and Troy to the affluent village of Midsomer Malham. Some villagers blame her for causing the death of an elderly villager by refusing to fix the leaking roof of his cottage, a family property under her management.
Ring out your dead: The church bell-ringers of Midsomer Wellow are practicing for an important bell-ringing competition, though the noise enrages some residents of the village. But when a murderer begins eliminating them one-by-one, Barnaby has to wonder if the murders are connected to the competition, or to an event that occurred in the late 19th century...
Murder on St. Malley's Day: After a student at the Devington School in Midsomer Parva is murdered, suspicion falls on villagers resentful of the school's snobbery. But Barnaby and Troy are more interested in the code of secrecy surrounding an elite student club.
Market for murder: Old Marjorie Empson is found murdered, having been hit over the head with her own walking stick. Barnaby and Troy discover that she, and several other women, secretly ran a stock market investor's club. As they interview the other members of the club, another horrific murder is committed, and it soon becomes clear the killer may have been someone privy to many secrets...
A worm in the bud: Young Julie Fielding, who loves to tease her brother with stories of robbers and bears prowling in the woods, is not taken seriously when she comes home with the tale of a woman she found "sleeping" – until a body is discovered. Barnaby and Troy investigage – with a little help from Julie and her brother - and soon discover lies, witchcraft and more.
